          		<title><![CDATA[Three National IT Awards for Virginia are Announced]]></title>
			
			  	
			  
				
			
				
			
			
 	 <description><![CDATA[<strong> October 27 &mdash;</strong> Governor Timothy M. Kaine announced that three Virginia information technology projects have received prestigious national Recognition Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Information Technology from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO). 
<p></p>
<p>"Performance management and transparency have been key priorities for my administration, and the awards exemplify these themes," Governor Kaine said. "This honor from our peers affirms both our direction and our use of information technology to improve government accountability and service."</p>
<p>The Commonwealth received more Recognition Awards in the 2009 NASCIO program than any other state.</p>

 	 <description><![CDATA[<strong> October 13 &mdash;</strong> Governor Kaine issued the following statement regardingthe release of a review of the Commonwealth's information technology infrastructure by the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC):<blockquote>
<p>"I'm pleased that JLARC's review acknowledges the current governance structure for the Virginia Information Technology Agency (VITA) is neither workable nor advisable. JLARC's conclusion that VITA's Chief Information Officer should report directly to the Executive Office for the services delivered to state agencies addresses the key concern I have repeatedly raised regarding accountability around Virginia's IT infrastructure."</p></blockquote>

 	 <description><![CDATA[<strong> October 5 &mdash;</strong> Governor Kaine congratulated the winners in Virginia's annual Governor's Technology Award program. Awards were presented at the 11th annual Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium in Williamsburg and are given for excellence in use of information technology in eight categories, including three that represent the unique challenges of localities, higher education and K-12 education. The Governor's awards program also recognizes excellence in telework programs in both the public and private sector.

Kaine announced today that <a title="http://www.stimulus.virginia.gov/" href="http://www.stimulus.virginia.gov/">Stimulus.Virginia.Gov</a>, Virginia's official website for citizen input for and reporting to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), has been honored with a national Digital Government Achievement Award in the Government-to-Citizen category by the non-profit Center for Digital Government. 
<p>"Since day one, citizen input, transparency, and accountability have been top priorities in the process of distributing ARRA funds," Governor Kaine said. "This honor affirms that <a title="http://www.stimulus.virginia.gov/" href="http://www.stimulus.virginia.gov/">Stimulus.Virginia.Gov</a> is an effective mechanism to achieve these goals and is yet another way that Virginia is taking the lead in its use of technology to engage citizens."</p>

Kaine today announced that Virginia will join forces with Microsoft in an innovative public-private partnership to provide free technology training to displaced workers. Through the Microsoft Elevate America program, the software and technology giant will work with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) to distribute 11,250 vouchers for technology training and certification. Elevate America also provides a wide variety of other free resources on its website including basic skills training and career resources to find internships and jobs.
