Leonard M. "Len" Pomata was appointed Secretary of Technology by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine in June 2009. In this capacity, he leads the Commonwealth’s strategy to effectively leverage technology in government reform, promotes Virginia’s innovation agenda, and fosters technology-related economic development with a special emphasis on entrepreneurship.
Secretary Pomata has more than 33 years of progressive management experience in engineering and information system development for public and private sector customers. He previously served as President of PRC Inc., a subsidiary of Litton Industries; President of WebMethods Inc. Government Business Unit; Senior Vice President of Oracle Corporation; and Site Manager at AT&T Bell Laboratories/Western Electric.
He chaired the ITIB's IT Infrastructure Committee, which oversees the 10-year, $2 billion public-private partnership between the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) and Northrop Grumman to transform state government's IT infrastructure.
Secretary Pomata served on the George Mason University (GMU) Board of Visitors and as a trustee for GMU Foundation. He currently is a trustee on the NYU-Poly board. He has been a member of the board of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and past president of the AFCEA Washington Chapter. He also has served on the board of the Electronic Industries Alliance, Professional Services Council and on the Virginia Security and Preparedness Council.
He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a master's degree in electrical engineering/computer sciences from New York University.
